I attended a recent NBX Meetup. The table topic question being asked was, “What was one pivotal moment in your life or career that got you to where you are today.”
I thought about my own pivotal moment, a forwarded email that I received from a St. Edwards University advisor in late April of this year. A small business strategy firm was looking for an intern. After a few interviews, I got the internship at the Business Success Center.
It has been almost four months and I’ve not only learned so much, but also been able to apply what I have learned in business courses from the past two years. The internship has given me exposure to the business community through Meetups, as well as small business owner interaction through events like First Looks Forum.
All of these events have really shown me the power of networking. The unique demographic of Austin’s small businesses brings a gamut of industries all interacting to create new and inspiring ideas, and being able to tap into that at my stage has really been exciting.
If it wasn’t for that one email on that April afternoon I wouldn’t be where I am today.
